Itinerary and Fees
Taking the Machame route in tents gives a better expedition experience than resting in huts. The total ascent/descent is 7 days and allows for proper acclimatization for new and experienced climbers. The total distance traveled is approximately 62km from the start of your ascent to the end of your descent.
- Day 1: Arrive in Kilimanjaro International airport JRO. We transfer you to the Keys hotel in Moshi
- Day 2: Overcome your jet lag at the Keys hotel in Moshi and pack your 12kg bag for the porters
- Day 3: Breakfast at the Keys and transfer to Machame Park gate [1,640m] and climb to 2,850m and rest at Machame camp
- Day 4: Climb to 3,810m and rest at Shira camp
- Day 5: Climb to 3,976m and rest at Barranco camp
- Day 6: Climb to 3,995m Karanga camp and rest
- Day 7: Climb to 4,673m Barafu camp and rest before summit attempt
- Day 8: Climb to 5,895m Uhuru peak and descend to Mweka camp 3,068m
- Day 9: Descend to 1,640m Mweka gate and transfer back to the Keys hotel in Moshi for dinner and overnight rest
- Day 10: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International airport JRO for your flight back to your country of origin
The fee for this trip is $3,100.00 USD per person [double occupancy price]. A non-refundable $1000.00 deposit is required upon booking. The remainder is due 120 days prior to departure. Cancellation due to matters out of our hands [political/weather/etc.] results in a full refund.
Gear List
- Footwear: a pair of waterproof hiking boots, a pair of comfortable running shoes for camp, 3 pairs of wool or synthetic lightweight or mid-weight socks, gaiters;
- Clothing: 1 hard shell jacket, 1 down or insulating jacket, 1 fleece lined soft shell sweater, 3 long sleeve base layer, 1 hard shell pant with zippers along sides, 1 fleece lined soft shell pant, 1 hiking pant, 1 shorts, 3 wool or synthetic underwear including sports bra, 1 pair of waterproof insulated gloves or mitts, 1 pair of liner gloves, 1 hat, 1 wool hat, 1 balaclava, 1 bandana;
- Backpack: 1 daypack for you lined with a thick plastic bag, 1 duffel bag for your porter lined with a thick plastic bag;
- Tech: 1 four-season sleeping bag for -10ºC in stuff sack, 1 sleeping bag liner, trekking pole(s), headlamp, sunglasses;
- Food: 2 1L wide mouth water bottles, high caloric day snacks you enjoy eating, coffee [optional];
- Other: sunscreen, small towel, TP, sanitary wipes and/or hand sanitizer, first aid kit, a few extra Ziplock bags, camera, GPS [optional], solar panel [optional], music player with headphones [optional], map [optional], camelback [optional], cup/bowl, spork, toothbrush, prescription medicine, passport, VISA [from JRO], and insurance documents.
